Sidewalk Installation: Transforming Green Patches into Durable Sidewalks at Narragansett Ave., Bronx

Overview of Project
- Client: Michele A Villanti
- Location: 2074 Narragansett Ave., Bronx, NY 10461, USA
- Project Scope: Green Patch Removal and Concrete Replacement
- Total Area: 448 sq ft
Homeowner Michele A Villanti in the Bronx had cracked and uneven sidewalk slabs in front of her house. The area also did not have a driveway; instead, it had green spaces and two narrow paths that led to the front and side doors. These patches had become an eyesore and a potential hazard for pedestrians.
With the intent to increase the safety and aesthetic appeal of the sidewalk, Michele reached out to us at Eden Concrete Contractors NYC to dig up the green patches, level the ground, and pour concrete over them, transforming the entire sidewalk, walkway, and driveway into a smooth, durable structure.
Scope of Work
According to the contract, we were tasked with removing the green patches and damaged sidewalk slabs, leveling the ground, and installing new concrete. The total area of 448 sq ft required a thorough excavation, sand removal, and concrete installation.
Our team was responsible for providing labor, materials, and expert craftsmanship to ensure a durable and long-lasting sidewalk.
Project Details
Concrete Replacement:

We excavated four green patches with varying depths.
- A 124-square-foot dirt patch was replaced with concrete.
- A 51-square-foot dirt patch was replaced with concrete.
- A 155-square-foot dirt patch was replaced with concrete.
- A 22-square-foot dirt patch was replaced with concrete.
Walkway Replacement:

- Removed and replaced a 51-square-foot concrete walkway
- Removed and replaced a 45-square-foot concrete walkway
Our Approach
Upon receiving Michele’s request, we conducted a detailed site assessment to understand the requirements of the project. As per our analysis, the green patches were uneven, the walkways were narrow and the sidewalk in front was deteriorating.
The whole area required precise excavation to ensure a level foundation for the new concrete sidewalk.

Excavation and Preparation: Our team began by carefully excavating the green patches, removing the topsoil and sand to create a flat and stable surface. This step was crucial to prevent any future shifting or cracking of the new concrete. After that, we removed the existing damaged concrete slabs and made the surface even.
Wire Mesh Installation: After leveling the soil, we integrated the wire mesh to prevent future cracking of concrete and increase its strength. Welded mesh will help in distributing the loads evenly across the concrete.
Concrete Installation: We used 4500 PSI ready-mix concrete, known for its durability and strength, to pour over the excavated areas. The whole surface was carefully leveled and finished to create a seamless transition with the existing sidewalk. After smoothing out the concrete, we installed expansion joints and filled them with caulk.
Final Touches: After pouring, leaving and installing expansion joints, we allowed it to cure properly for 48 hours. We then cleaned the site, leaving Michele with a transformed sidewalk that was not only safe but also enhanced the curb appeal of her property.
Outcome

The project was completed on time and within the agreed budget. Michele was thrilled with the results. The once unsightly green patches were replaced with a smooth, flat concrete surface that blended perfectly with the existing sidewalk. The new sidewalk is not only aesthetically pleasing but also safe and durable, adding value to his property.
